How our world should look like.
WHERE’S FORKS WASHINGTON!!!
I kid…
(via wilwheaton)
- He followed Trayvon because Trayvon was black.
- He called the police because Trayvon was black.
- He jumped out of his car because Trayvon was black.
- He got into a physical altercation with Trayvon because Trayvon was black.
- He shot Trayvon in the chest because Trayvon was…
I agree that Zimmerman is an incredibly paranoid racist… but the stand your ground law has nothing to do with the fact that Zimmerman is not being held accountable for his actions. He felt entitled to shoot Trayvon not because of the stand your ground law, but because his paranoid racisim told him that he would be hailed as a hero or at the very least not prosecuted because everyone else believes like he does. The actions of the police and the prosecutor’s office indicates that he is likely correct, at least on the local level.
But I repeat, the Stand your Ground law has NOTHING to do with Trayvon’s death, even though it is incredibly tragic to have an innocent boy killed for no reason.
The Stand Your Ground law means that you do not have to retreat from eminent threat to your person. It does not give you the permission to kill someone indiscriminately. It means that under threat of harm to your life or the lives of others, a direct and REAL threat, not just a percieved threat like in Zimmerman’s case, you can use force to defend yourself. And if that force ends up being deadly, it was self defense, or defense of others. In NO WAY is what Zimmerman did considered self defense. He attacked a boy who was walking in his neighborhood. The boy was only guilty of walking while black. The boy was also a boy in comparison to Zimmerman’s middle aged state. The law indicates that there needs to be a threat, even if there was a chance that Trayvon would physically attack Zimmerman (without a weapon since there wasn’t one), it is more likely that Zimmerman would have prevailed in any state, which means that deadly force with a weapon was not warranted. Zimmerman would have needed to be a weak scrawny fellow who couldn’t even arm wrestle a child in order for Trayvon to be a physical threat to him.
Before you go about throwing accusations about a law being the cause of a senseless tragedy, do your research and understand all of the implications. A law cannot pull a trigger. A law cannot kill someone. This particular law didn’t even give Zimmerman permission to legally carry a gun. This law only meant that he didn’t have to run away.

Our 14-year-old dog Abbey died last month. The day after she passed away my 4-year-old daughter Meredith was crying and talking about how much she missed Abbey. She asked if we could write a letter to God so that when Abbey got to heaven, God would recognize her. I told her that I thought we could so, and she dictated these words:
Dear God,
Will you please take care of my dog? She died yesterday and is with you in heaven. I miss her very much. I am happy that you let me have her as my dog even though she got sick.
I hope you will play with her. She likes to swim and play with balls. I am sending a picture of her so when you see her you will know that she is my dog. I really miss her.
Love, Meredith
We put the letter in an envelope with a picture of Abbey and Meredith and addressed it to God/Heaven. We put our return address on it. Then Meredith pasted several stamps on the front of the envelope because she said it would take lots of stamps to get the letter all the way to heaven. That afternoon she dropped it into the letter box at the post office. A few days later, she asked if God had gotten the letter yet. I told her that I thought He had.
Yesterday, there was a package wrapped in gold paper on our front porch addressed, ‘To Meredith’ in an unfamiliar hand. Meredith opened it. Inside was a book by Mr. Rogers called, ‘When a Pet Dies.’ Taped to the inside front cover was the letter we had written to God in its opened envelope. On the opposite page was the picture of Abbey & Meredith and this note:
Dear Meredith,
Abbey arrived safely in heaven. Having the picture was a big help and I recognized her right away.
Abbey isn’t sick anymore. Her spirit is here with me just like it stays in your heart. Abbey loved being your dog. Since we don’t need our bodies in heaven, I don’t have any pockets to keep your picture in so I am sending it back to you in this little book for you to keep and have something to remember Abbey by.
Thank you for the beautiful letter and thank your mother for helping you write it and sending it to me. What a wonderful mother you have. I picked her especially for you. I send my blessings every day and remember that I love you very much. By the way, I’m easy to find. I am wherever there is love.
Love, God

From my Uncle:
“True story from a Kansas State Highway Patrol officer:
I made a traffic stop on an elderly lady the other day for speeding
on U.S. 166 Eastbound at Mile Marker 73 just East of Sedan , KS .
I asked for her driver’s license, registration, and proof of insurance.
The lady took out the required information and handed it to me.
In with the cards I was somewhat surprised (due to her advanced age)
to see she had a conceal carry permit. I looked at her and ask if
she had a weapon in her possession at this time.
She responded that she indeed had a .45 automatic in her glove box.
Something—-body language, or the way she said it—-made me want
to ask if she had any other firearms. She did admit to also having
a 9mm Glock in her center console. Now I had to ask one more
time if that was all. She responded once again that she did have
just one more, a .38 special in her purse. I then asked her what
was she so afraid of.
She looked me right in the eye and said, “Not a damn thing!”
